ABOUT US

 

Schio Scientific High School was born in the 1960s and developed over time together with the most up-to-date curricular, methodological, and didactic innovations. The main aim is to be a lively, modern school, open to Europe, where students can learn in a reliable and peaceful environment.

 

Tron is located in Via Luzio 4, Schio, in the province of Vicenza (Italy), inside of the local campus “Città degli Studi”. It is an agile and functional structure with modern and well-equipped rooms and labs.

 

The high school has an efficient IT system (Intranet, Internet, WiFi) so as to simplify communication and management procedures, and to provide an efficient and up-to-date education. The high school constantly co-operates with local, Italian and European schools, universities, and research centers.

Tron High School currently has 1047 students divided into 45 classes, 91 teachers, 3 technical assistants, 8 administrative assistants and 13 school collaborators/school care-takers.

LS Liceo Scientifico

“Liceo scientifico” offers a rich and complete education, in a wide range of different areas, both in the scientific field and in humanistic subjects.

It favors the acquisition of that knowledge and those methods typical of math, physics and natural sciences.

It guides the student to develop the necessary abilities to follow the development of the scientific and technological research and to identify the relationship between the different forms of knowledge, ensuring the thorough knowledge of different languages, techniques and methodologies, also by practicing in labs.

This curriculum envisages the mandatory acquisition of the European Computer Driving License (ECDL).

Liceo Scientifico with linguistic strengthening

 

 

This curriculum introduces a second foreign language (German) in the first two-year period. In the second two-year period, students will be able to continue their learning of German by attending afternoon classes so to earn a linguistic certification recognized by universities.

The presence of this curriculum, with two foreign languages and Latin, allows to strengthen linguistic and expressive abilities that, together with the scientific component, complete the student’s high school education.

This curriculum envisages the mandatory acquisition of the European Computer Driving License (ECDL).

LS SCIENZE APPLICATE - APPLIED SCIENCES

The “Liceo Scientifico-Applied Sciences” pays particular attention to the critic analysis of the considered phenomena; encourages the reflection on the method typical of experimental procedures and of the study of strategies that favor the scientific research.

Math, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology and Earth science are studied and closely examined through the constant use of modern and well-equipped labs.

A lot of space is given to computer science as a subject, keeping in mind both cultural, technological and operative aspects.

This curriculum envisages the mandatory acquisition of the European Computer Driving License (ECDL).

Activities & Labs (inside classrooms)

HEALTH EDUCATION

It consists in the collaboration with experts (in particular with Local Health Unit n.4) to take a deeper look into themes about health education, already included in the didactic planning: NOURISHMENT EDUCATION, SEX EDUCATION, DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION, H.I.V. PREVENTION, BLOOD DONATIONS: A CONCIOUS CHOICE.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL LABS

These aim to build an adequate person-environment relationship, with a knowledge of one’s own territory, origins, and with in-class activities and field trips. VOLCANOES PROJECT; WATER PROJECT (only for first-year students); BIODIVERSITY PROJECT (only for second-year students).

 

SCIENTIFIC IN-DEPTH ANALYSES

LLC (Biotechnology lab); seminars and meetings with scientific research labs and institutes; Math, Chemistry, Physics, Science, Computer Science Olympiads.

 

INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS AND TWINNINGS

With “Gymnasium Seligenthal” in Landshut (D), with “Liceo Tancsics” in Kaposvar (H), with “Srednja Skola M. Blazine” in Labin (HR) and with “Gymnazium Joachima Barranda” in Beroun (CZ). Two-week-long study holidays to practice English in the United Kingdom with Tron teachers. Participation in contests and in-depth analyses on European issues (EUROMASTER and EASTERN ROADS)

 

CARING CITIZENS

The school wants to make a sense of social solidarity and of vicinity to the more powerless grow in its students through the knowledge of poverty and suffering situations, with activities such as fundraisings and drives.

Promoted initiatives:

-SOLIDARITY TUBE: a transparent plastic tube that raises money to support solidarity micro-projects;

-SOCIAL DAY: participation of the students in a work day whose profit is devolved to humanitarian projects in Italy and abroad;

-Personal hygiene DRIVES in favor of the Vicenza Jail prisoners;

-ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP ACTIVITY to understand the volunteering opportunities in our area;

-SUMMER VOLUNTEERING PROPOSALS (with earthquake refugees in Emilia in 2012)

 

SCHOOL INTEGRATION

In the past years, Tron Scientific High School has shown to be sensitive towards students with disabilities, trying to favor their integration with the use of the most suitable strategies to each case. The school envisages the individualization of a personalized educational plan for students with DSA.

E.C.D.L.

Tron High School is an accredited center for the E.C.D.L. exam, the European Computer Driving License, that certifies the IT skills at a European level.

 

ACTIVITIES, LABS AND GROUPS (optional and in the afternoon)

 

SPORTS CENTER

There are afternoon sports activities with the organization of school tournaments and the participation to city, province and National events in different sports disciplines (track & field, team sports, skiing); significant are the results achieved both at a local and National level.

 

FOREIGN LANGUAGES CERTIFICATIONS AND LINGUISTIC PROJECTS

The school offers to the fourth-year students the opportunity to sit the Cambridge First Certificate exam, that certifies at an International level, the student’s English language skills. This certification is recognized by most universities in order to get credits. The students who study German will have the opportunity to earn the certification of their linguistic skills by the Goethe Institut. C.L.I.L. lesson plans (lessons during which a foreign language is used) are carried out. Digital grammar and language textbooks have been introduced for the first time this year.

 

EMAS

Emas certification is a voluntary environmental instrument created by the European Commission to assess and improve environmental performances. This certification has an important educative and didactic meaning as it translates in the commitment to respect and valorize the environment through one’s own environment management system. The environment management system is managed by a group of students and by some teachers who, for its correct application, carry out these activities:

-promote curricular and extracurricular activities for students to know the environment around them;

-manage and control, by monitoring, school resource consumptions;

-involve the whole school population to have an appropriate behavior in order to pollute the environment as less as possible and to reduce the environmental impact, reducing the resource consumption.

 

L’ASINO ROSA (THE PINK DONKEY), THE TRON STUDENTS’ NEWSPAPER

Culture, activities, polls, school life and relationships with partner schools, reviews, games, and much more by the school editorial staff. This to learn how a real editorial staff works.

 

MEDIA LATINITAS

Immersed in the Roman and medieval world, the students are guided through readings, analyses and transcriptions of epigraphic and book texts in Latin. This activity aims to improve the knowledge of the Latin language through the direct approach to the documents.

 

TRONWEB

Tronweb is made up of students that cooperate and publish their works on the school website. http:www.tron.vi.it

FISTRON

This is a physics lab set up to acquire data by means of the computer. The students can use the most up-to-date technologies to inquire the world of physics and of the new industrial technologies, gaining, at the same time, computer, physical, and electronic skills.

 

SCUOLA IMPRESA

The school organizes internships in companies and public authorities with a careful coordination and supervision of the latter. Some classes carry out some research activities on the business history.

 

STUDENT COUNCIL

There is an operative Student Council that also organizes working groups: the school newspaper, the festivities committee…

 

PARENT COUNCIL

This is a group of parents that actively cooperate with the school and organizes free classes for studying and catching up. It financially supports the Tron budget. It has its own, very operative Committee and President.

 

WHERE AND HOW YOU CAN STUDY

 

LECTURE HALL

It is equipped with a fixed video projector and a stereo system, that can be used for meetings, auditions and projections: 250 seats. All the classrooms are connected with Intranet and Internet terminals, included the students’ entertainment room.

 

ENTERTAINMENT ROOM

This room is designed for the Student Council, Parent Council, and guests reception meetings.

 

LIBRARY

With more than 10.000 volumes, especially scientifically-and-historically-based ones. It is equipped with an author and topic catalogue. The cataloguing of works by authors and topics from Vicenza has also been completed. It has joined the Vicenza School Libraries Network and, therefore, has access to the inter-library loan services with other public and school libraries in our province.

 

2 PHYSICS LABS AND 1 PHYSICS ROOM

Where you can have qualitative and quantitative experiences on topics such as mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, optics, electromagnetism, etc.

 

GYM AND OUTSIDE MULTI-PURPOSE PLATFORM for sports science activities.

 

ART ROOM where you can learn graphic techniques. Part of the activities are carried out in the MULTIMEDIAL LAB 2 (used for technical drawing teaching)

 

BIOLOGY LAB

Where you can learn how to use a microscope and what the observation and preparation, histology and both animal and vegetal anatomy techniques are, and where you can carry out biochemical researches on biologic material.

 

2 CHEMISTRY LABS, one of which was built very recently, where you can study elements and compounds, chemical and physical characteristics. Chemical reactions with the qualitative and quantitative analyses are carried out.

 

LINGUISTIC LAB

This is a latest generation digital lab: here the language learning can happen through the integrated use of video and music files, video, DVDs, CDs and Internet.

The activity range is therefore very wide and suited to the tastes and abilities of the new generation of students.

 

3 COMPUTER SCIENCE LABS

Where you can learn how to use a computer, creating programs and using applicative packets for computer printing, data processing, math applications, Internet, etc.

 

LIM (INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA WHITEBOARDS)

Before the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, all the classrooms will be equipped with an interactive multimedia whiteboard, so to have an up-to-date, captivating didactic. The Internet is used to communicate with universities, National Institutes and schools, to communicate with libraries and use the available didactic resources, to communicate with alumni and the economic world with whom we cooperate (companies, associations, etc.)

Normal classes are integrated with activities and laboratories, and numerous optional activities are also offered; more than 20 during the current year.

Nicolò Tron, a man of a strong humanistic knowledge and a learned entrepreneur, was deeply rooted in the cultural and socio-economic context, both locally (in the Schio, Vicenza, and Veneto region) and, at the same time, we was open to European issues.

Even in a hoped perspective of a real and operative school autonomy, the rootedness to the past history and to the current, lively context of our area, seems a fact difficult to contest. If it can be said, in fact, that a real, scientifically-based, comprehension of oneself and of the surrounding world can’t leave out of consideration an aware deeper look of the tighter and tighter bonds that characterize the different parts of the contemporary world, the re-discovery of one’s origins and identity shouldn’t be left out in the name of a generic and presumed universal conscience.

The relationship with our area is therefore needed. In particular, being this a scientific high school, the knowledge of its historical evolution, between the environment and industrialization, between the knowledge and the transformation of the latter in the productive procedure, needs to be developed through the analysis of the scientific and technologic aspects to which it is correlated.

In order to avoid local closures, all this needs to have a place in the deep changes which characterize the contemporary world due to the power of information and formation of the mass-communication means that the student, through school, should critically know and consciously handle without any kind of dependence.

 

THE MISSION

There are some core values on which the educational activity, the P.O.F. (Educational Policy Plan), and the quality management system lay their foundations.

  • The student as the protagonist of his or her learning process (he or she understands that the school is at his service, and cooperates with teachers in the learning process)
  • The sharing of the acquired knowledge and a cooperative learning (being able to cooperate with others is a fundamental skill for the student’s studies, job, researches, and family)
  • Class environment (Youths have the right to live their teenage years in a peaceful environment, and, plus, they learn better and have better results in a positive atmosphere),
  • Adherence to the territory and local culture – openness to Europe (students from this high school often find themselves in a leading and representative role for our culture in Europe; the territory is used as a classroom and the relationship with authorities and European schools is consolidated),
  • Technological innovations (Tron has been recognized, for at least the past 15 years, as a reference point in this field at a local, National and European level, and the merit for this goes to the teachers, technicians, and students)

WHO CHOOSES TRON?

Students that choose Tron:

  • Want to study for five years and then probably continue their studies;
  • Show interest in scientific subjects, and inclination to math;
  • Want to broaden their general culture;
  • Is aware that choosing the scientific high school will mean to pay attention when in school and be committed when studying individually;
  • Are usually enthusiastic about it!

 

Liceo Scientifico sports-oriented

This curriculum was approved by the teaching staff on January 10th, 2013, and by the school council on January 11th, 2013, implementing the School Autonomy law. Students will be able to start this curriculum from the school year 2013/2014.

This sports-oriented curriculum is conform to the scientific high school-sports curriculum National regulations, and includes the integration of sports disciplines and the strengthening of physical education.

The final diploma is the scientific high school one with the specific option of Applied Sciences.

This curriculum allows to better know physical and sports sciences, inside of a cultural framework that favors the acquisition of competencies and methods typical of math, physics, natural sciences, and also economy and right.

It guides the student in developing abilities and maturing the necessary competencies to understand the interactions between the different kinds of knowledge, sports sciences and sports culture.

It ensures pair opportunities for all the students, included those who are affected by motor disabilities.

This curriculum includes the mandatory acquisition of the European Computer Driving License (ECDL).

How to get to Tron


View Map


The city of Schio is located at the foothills of the Venetian Prealps, less than 100 km from Venice and a little bit more than 200 km from Milan. It is easily accessible by public transport and by car.

If you are arriving by plane, you can land in: Milan, Verona, Venice, Bologna or Treviso, and then reach Schio by public transport.

If you are travelling by train from Vicenza, you can stop at the Schio FS Station.

A31 Highway, between Vicenza-Schio/Thiene, is an easy way, with little traffic, to reach Schio by car, if you are arriving from A4 Highway.


From the train station in Schio, you can take a taxi or the bus (from the bus stop in front of the train station, all the routes go to the bus station in Via Divisione Acqui)

From the bus station,in about 5 minutes on foot, you can get to Tron High School, following via SS. Trinità (towards Santorso), till the intersection with via Fleming, where you will have to turn right. After about 200 meters, you will find via Luzio, and the Tron high school building on the left.

From the Thiene-Schio A31 toll booth, follow the directions to Schio, and not the GPS as it might not be updated. As soon as you exit the highway, turn left and continue straight at the two following roundabouts. At the third roundabout (after some km), take the third exit (to Schio-Industrial zone). Continue straight past the industrial zone and past all the roundabouts you will find, until the first traffic light (right after the sports arena). At the traffic light, turn right and take viale S. Croce.Continue straight till the next traffic light and turn right to take via XXIX Aprile. At the following traffic light, turn right again in via Tito Livio, entering the local campus (Cittadella degli Studi), take the first street on the left, and then the first one on the right, and you arrive in via Luzio.

Nicolò Tron

“Schio is a marvel of industry, it is the demonstration of how much, even if in a short period of time, it can influence the improvement of mankind and make it be useful to the Country. In fact, even if just thirty years ago this land was lacking inhabitants, and those few were lazy and miserable, it now has a population of over 6.000 people, who are active and tireless when working... And all the merit for this change goes to Nicolò Tron.”

There are no words better than those written by Francesco Griselin in 1765, that can introduce us to a personality that wasn’t from Schio, but still worked for the good of our city, re-giving vitality  to the wool industry that had declined in it and anticipating operative methods and the results achieved by A. Rossi in terms of open and modern mindedness.

Coming from an old and noble family, Nicolò Tron (1685-1772), young member of the Veneto region Senate, was sent to the British court in 1715 as an ambassador of the Serenissima. Tron treasured his stay in England, memorizing every single useful data to introduce in his country, once back, the most advanced wool spinning and weaving methods. After coming back to Venice and finding the Dominante authorities reluctant to his new ideas, he moved his attention to Schio, where, towards the end of the second decade of the XVIII century, he started a woolen mill that soon became an example for the other people around the area. In our area, that since the 1701 had been allowed to manufacture “panni alti” (that is fine fabrics), Tron brought foreign technicians and instructors, new spinning machines and English shuttle looms, “with whom you could do without a man working at the loom, and also accelerate and improve the fabrics weaving". In 1793 he opened in Schio another complete production cycle factory, giving work to as well as 500 workers.

Endowed with considerable financial resources, but most of all with a open-mindedness, Nicolò Tron didn’t egoistically pursue his own richness, maybe even to the detriment of the local wool workers. In fact he even opened his factories to the fabric weavers from Schio so that they could benefit from them. With these revolutionary and charity initiatives, he laid the necessary foundations in our city to develop the wool business which affected Schio in the second half of ‘700 and in the Rossi age.

Certifications

There is a Quality Group in the school, which is made up of school staff, that works to improve the didactic and administrative services and to make the school activities more efficient and transparent.

Among the activities undertaken during the current school year, the beginning of the works for the EMAS environmental certification is to be pointed out.

Tron was given the quality certification ([[ISO 9001|UNI EN ISO 9001]]) in all the fields: educational syllabus/curriculum, Administration, Research and development, Students and Teachers Services. Since 2014 the school can avail itself of the ENIS (European Network Innovative School) School Title, which is given to 500 schools in Europe, and only 2 high schools in Italy.
